Day 30 - 2nd Aug 2022
Crystal Brook
to Two Wells
David's Journal Entry
Today we flew. Intermittent 40kmph tailwinds took us to our destination, although, the last part of the day was far from easy. The podcast I was listening to was strangely prescient as it relayed how 'Dislocation of Expectation' can develop one's ability to problem solve. No sooner had it finished than we found ourselves about 100km into our journey with worsening conditions and heading towards Dublin, SA; a place considerably less hospitable than its namesake in Ireland. Having planned to stop here for the night we now had to reconsider our options and swiftly reached the conclusion that Two Wells, some 60km farther up the road was our best bet.
Our first rain of the trip was hardly torrential, but it did necessitate pulling on wet weather gear and my 'balloon pants' were definitely more bin liner than Haute couture. Sweating all the way around the outskirts of Dublin was enough, and by the time we reached Lower Light, the next town along, I had removed the waterproofs and felt considerably more comfortable. Ultimately, we very nearly covered another imperial ton. We fell just short at 159km, or 98.8 miles, and although we did consider riding around the block a few times, we decided we had already done enough to merit a night in a cheap but cosy motel.
