Day 23 - 26th July 2022

Coober Pedy

to Old Peak Creek RA

David's Journal Entry

Today was a slog. The landscape was without question the most desolate and treeless of the whole trip so far, made worse by the consistent headwinds for the 95km it took to get to Ingomar Rest Area, at which point we were somewhat surreally greeted by cowbells and wild gesticulations. Unbelievably, two of Mike's friends, Lala and Jase, had driven for two days from Sydney to surprise him. We pushed on a further 13km to find a better spot for the night, where they joined us bringing good company, wine, beer, steak and joy. As we spent the evening setting up camp, cooking and chatting the stars came out in what proved to be one of the most remote sections of the journey, and the sliver of a moon hoped for at Attack Creek ensured maximum visibility. A truly special experience. Our early finish today means we need a big push tomorrow, to reach Glendambo, but I am confident today's festivities will only be a tonic.
