Day 28 - 31st July 2022

Port Augusta (zero day)

David's Journal Entry

Who doesn't love a day doing nothing? The ability to walk out the door and acquire anything one needs is a remarkable product of consumer society and in real contrast to our past few weeks. Although the consumptive nature of such possibilities was jarring the ability to draw water with insignificant effort, acquire a pair of socks at will, shower at length and have a machine wash one's laundry was most welcome.

A little normality with the arrival of F&F was also a great tonic, not least because of the more diverse conversation. I also took the chance to pamper Doug, a quick wash and tune-up relieved the skipping gears and steering squeak. With some great music playing, a fridge full of cold drinks, snacks aplenty and a set of bike tools in hand I had a very chilled afternoon. The day went from good to great though when I had a video call with Eileen and the boys. I would love to have been able to dive through the phone and squeeze each one of them. The technology isn't quite there yet though, so a video call had to suffice.
